Another summer of music in the books and what a great season of music we’ve had. Whether it’s hitting up the hottest music festivals or picking up a copy of your favorite artist’s album, the summer is usually remembered by hot music. Sending us out in style for the summer of 2013 are two DJs that know all too well about keeping it hot. Out of El Paso, Texas, holding down Cornerstone Mixtape 164 are The Gecko Brothers – Pooh Heff and DJ Marc X.

Friends and colleagues for over 20 years, the one time rap group turned DJs got their start at El Paso’s KPRR, spinning for the #1 rated show and mix-show in the market; “Craack Radio” and “Street Bangers,” respectively. As they parted ways from the station in 2007, both appeared in the independent movie “BorderLords II” as well as throwing and promoting concerts in the South West. Currently, Pooh Heff has nights at XHTO, El Paso 104.3 Hit FM, along with a 1 hour mix on fridays titled “Recession Proof”. Marc X is currently in the mix weekends at KZBT, Odessa B93.

The Gecko Brothers think of themselves as brothers rather than a crew or partners. What started as a mix tape series, together, the Gecko Bros have escalated to an online radio station, web series, clothing affiliates and website, with more to come.

As summer comes to a close, the baseball playoffs are around the corner and the NFL season is set to kick off. The landscape in music is constantly changing and no one can be certain as to where we’re headed. Whose verse will get people excited? Whose album will lead the pack? Whose song will be the next one to make the clubs go crazy? We can’t be for certain, but we do know we will be there to bring you those songs first. Until then, stay inspired, and remember, ”the DJ is the Cornerstone of Hip-Hop®.”
